The Art of Aesthetics - An Intimate Journey through Macro Photography

Hello Reader,

I hope you are having the most beautiful week. My 2021 Floriography collection was focused on getting closer to my subjects. I wanted to share this process of Macro Photography, not just the specs of what it is, but rather the feelings it evokes. Come take a peek into the world of Macro.

What does love feel like?

You know when you first fall in love and your every wish is to get a little closer to the one you love? You want to know how eyelashes fall onto their cheeks, to see every color in their eyes as the light shines on them, to memorize each movement. Sometimes when you walk beside them, you wish you could melt into them, become part of their body just to feel it close to you.

Ethereal wonder through a Macro Lens

This same ethereal feeling exists within Macro Photography. It is a slow-burning romance, a way of making familiar subjects into something entirely new. I have always had a love affair with flowers, amazed by how they exist in all their splendor, seemingly endless patterns, textures, colors, and aromas. They had been subjects for still life photography for years; I had them scattered around my house, bringing feeling to every room. Yet, there were so many parts of them I had not discovered yet, an intimacy that I longed for.

As you can see in this selection of prints, the macro lens truly allows one to explore the intricate patterns of flowers in a way traditional photography cannot. The way you can almost feel the curves of the poppy's delicate petals, they look as though they are blowing in the wind—the tulips collapse and open, a fluttering that makes the heartbeat just a little slower.

Flowers as teachers

Each moment with specific flowers evoked very different emotions. It was an incredible journey that allowed me not only to get to know my subjects more but truly left room for personal expansion. As I saw the way they bloomed and wilted, they gently invited me to look at the way I bloomed and faded.

What did I need to thrive?
How to find the courage to allow myself the honor of genuinely shining?

The lessons of rest and how our worth is not found in doing but often in stillness. Flowers can grow and produce their unique attributes of beauty by letting go of expectation and simply letting the nourishment of the soil, time, and sunshine help them become.

Macro Photography and our own transformation

I cannot speak for you, but I can say that I can often forget to soak in the stunning details all around me in the busyness of everyday life. I can ignore the way a cool breeze on my face asks my eyes to close as a smile forms. A breath in, the details of my hands, the lines of life, and the way they move as they arrange flowers. The magnificence of being alive is always found in the sweet, intimate details that we can so often look over.

Moments of bliss

Floriography is my interpretation of the language of flowers; my hope is that they will bring moments of bliss and discovery into your everyday life. That as you walk by them, hanging on your wall, you will stop and allow yourself to be present. To smile at the details and be amazed by the unfamiliar.

Take a moment to tap into your bliss today and every day.

With love,

The world of flowers is a place of uncanny beauty. Thousands of species, so unique in their creation, fleeting moments of blooming and wilting. Each stem holding lessons untold. Story after story waiting to be captured. I am a fine art photographer. I am mesmerized by the seasons, the way when we engage all of our senses, the most simple movements become art that remains. My collections are one of a kind, only offered once a year. Photographs that are beacons of time, meant to be coveted and inspire you time and time again. Moments not only to treasure but to remind you of the beauty that exists in every unexpected place.

The intimacy of gifting. When I choose my packaging, I choose it the same way I choose a dress for a formal occasion. I want every detail to offer something beautiful.
